The network exports: data retrieval and application

Telraam’s network exports give you more flexibility in analyzing traffic data. You can download Excel (.xlsx) files and process the data as you like. This article explains how to export data, what each export type contains and how to interpret the files. We offer four types of exports: (1) The full raw data, (2) the monthly data, (3) the typical traffic and (4) the street sheet. Below, we break down each type.

1. Full raw data export

This export provides pure traffic count data for an entire road segment. You can use it for custom analysis.

How to export

  1. Go to your network dashboard

  2. Click on Exports

  3. Use filters (e.g., postal code, specific track or 'individual installation') if needed.

  4. Select the road segment(s) you're interested in.

  5. Select 'Full raw data'

  6. Select hourly or quarterly data

  7. Click 'Export'

  8. Go to 'exported files' and download your file.
Note: You will receive one excel file per segment.

💡 What does ‘Individual Installation’ mean?

By default, data is shown at the segment level, meaning that all Telraam devices on the same road segment are included in the calculations. If multiple devices exist on one segment, an average is taken. If you want to view data from a specific Telraam device (e.g., the one installed by you or within your network), enable the ‘individual installation’ filter. This is also required for viewing private Telraam data, as private data is only accessible at the installation level.

Understanding the file

  • ID (column A) – The street segment ID (found in the public page URL)

  • Date & time (column D) – Shown in local time

  • Speed distribution (columns K-R) – Data for the speed graph

  • Traffic direction (columns S-AV) – Objects moving A > B (left to right) vs. B > A (right to left)

  • Uptime – Measures active counting time

    • Good uptime (>0.5): means reliable data

    • Low uptime (<0.5): Can indicate an issue

      💡 What is uptime?

Uptime is the percentage of time a Telraam device actively counts traffic. Telraam S2 units have nearly 100% uptime. For Telraam V1, uptime is typically around 75%, since the device spends some time processing data and creating a background reference image. For the not-uptime data is adjusted to reflect what would have been counted if it were running continuously.

How to export

Follow steps 1-4 from the Full Raw Data Export, than:

  1. Select 'Monthly report'

  2. Choose your month

  3. Click 'Export'

  4. Download your file
Note: If multiple segments are selected, all data is included in one file.

3. Typical Traffic

This file contains the typical traffic data.

💡 What is Typical Traffic?

Typical traffic is the average number of vehicles counted during a specific hour and day of the week over the past year (or the entire lifetime of a Telraam if it’s been active for less than a year). It represents what is “normal” based on past observations. For example, if a street usually has 1,000 cars on Fridays from 2–3 PM, that’s the typical traffic for that hour. If 1,100 cars are counted this week, then traffic was 110% of typical levels. Read more in FAQ article "Network data: observed, typical and relative traffic data."

How to export

Follow steps 1-4 from the Full Raw Data Export, than:

  1. Select 'Typical Traffic'

  2. Select your date range

  3. Click 'Export'

  4. Download your file
Note: You will receive one excel file per segment.

4. Street Sheet

The Street Sheet helps analyze traffic on the same segment before and after a change. Great for answering questions like:
🚦 Did the new speed limit reduce speed of cars?
🚸 Did the school street reduce car volume?

How to export

Follow steps 1-4 from the Full Raw Data Export, than:

  1. Select 'Street Sheet'

  2. Choose your two time periods

  3. Click 'Export'

  4. Download your file
Note: You will receive one excel file per segment.
